Winter Sports for Southgate Anderson
As the winter sports season begins, excitement is building for our school’s upcoming sports. Wrestling, girls’ and boys’ basketball, and competitive cheer are all gearing up for action. Athletes have been training during the off-season, and our Titan family can’t wait to cheer them on as they represent our school with skill and pride throughout this season.
To start with, our wrestling season is looking bright. Over the past few years, our wrestling program has been flourishing under the current head coach, Ian Norscia. Our current seniors and state qualifiers, Johnny Pardo and Habib Majedi, are ready to lead our team into another great season. Pardo, “I’m excited to get back on the mat and work hard with my teammates.”
Girls’ basketball is looking to have one of its better seasons yet. The off-season training was hard, coached by Laekyn Jaciuk, to build the program. The team is led by seniors Reese Randall and Abbie Juco, and juniors Scarlett Sage, Acelynn Cantineri, and Mariah Crump, who is coming off a recently torn ACL. The team has high hopes for this season, said Coach Laekyn, impersonating DJ Kalid, “All I want to do this season is win.”
Boys’ basketball, coached by Steven Draper, is looking to have an improved season as well. Off-season training has been rigorous, and as Southgate fans, we are looking forward to seeing the team’s season. Seniors John Parish, Vincent Iwuagwu, Nathan Hovis, and Mason Martin are ready to take on this season.
Competitive cheer is also looking to gain another state championship title this season under our new coaching staff, Alexandra Talbott and Alexis Newman, and leading seniors Reccie Hughes, Marina Georvassilis, Marylou Berner, and Lexi Johnson. The season is looking positive, with the underclassmen able to help bring the Southgate competitive cheer pride back.
As Titan fans, we are looking forward to seeing all our Southgate programs’ improvement!
