The Southgate Anderson Marching Band earned a strong 2nd-place finish this past Saturday at the Carlson Spectacular, scoring an impressive 83. Competing against a field of talented bands, the group stood out for their percussion, auxiliary, and visual performance, eventually bringing home those caption awards. Led by director Zack Novicki, the band performed their 2025 field show “In The Garden”, which featured challenging drill formations and expressive musical elements to help bring this performance to life. From the beginning, one of our leading guard captains, Gracie Shipman, started us off with a stunning solo performance to transport the crowd to the garden. With our Front ensemble section leader, Ethan Hougas, breaking the silence with his marimba solo, the rest of the ensemble added in to beautifully showcase the skills they have been working on since June. Every member played a crucial role in bringing the show to life, from the Battery to the Wind Ensemble. The Southgate Anderson Marching Band will return to the field soon at the Downriver fanfare on Tuesday, September 30th! They are aiming to build on this success and continue growing throughout the season.
