Liam Payne, born August 29th 1993 to mother and father Karen and Geoff Payne. At 17 years old, Liam Payne joined pop boy band One Direction in July 2010 with fellow members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson. They went on to create 5 albums, 109 songs, and go on 4 world tours before officially disbanding in January of 2016.
After one direction Liam Payne pursued other projects like solo music and songwriting, he also became a father shortly after, having a now 7-year-old son Bear Payne with his ex-girlfriend Cheryl Cole.
On October 16th Liam Payne fell from the 3rd floor balcony of his hotel in Argentina, passing away from his injuries. Different reports state that the fall was not suicide, but they belive he was only semi-concious at the time. Investigators found a destroyed hotel room, alcohol, a smashed TV, and a number of substances, including cocaine, MDMA, methamphetamine, and prescribed antidepressants.
Liam Payne has been extremely open and honest about his addiction and struggles with sobriety, in May of 2023 he celebrated 100 days of sobriety saying “I feel really, really good and the support from the fans has been really, really good. So, I’m super happy.”
He talks about having to hide his addiction during his One Direction years even when he had hit “rock bottom”. He says the worst thing for him was Covid-19 quarantine, that he eventually realized he could get away with always being a little tipsy even when he’s wasted.
The days following October 16th, the internet is flooded with heartfelt messages and mourning from Liam’s friends, family, and fans.
