On Tuesday, September 16, our volleyball teams faced a tough match-up with the Carlson Marauders. The freshman team lost all three sets, and the JV team struggled strongly, losing all three sets quickly. Our varsity team started strong, taking the first set, but Carlson rallied to win the next three sets. The match ended in the fourth set due to a controversial call, when the refs mistakenly allowed Southgate to take three timeouts in a set. Instead of issuing a yellow card to the Southgate head coach, Alexis Calhoun, for “delaying the game,” the up-ref ended the match by giving the last point they needed, giving Carlson the set 25-23 and stealing their victory.
Although the game ended abruptly, Chloe Rybicki, class of 2026, was given the title “player of the match.” She totaled 7 points, 6 kills, and 1 block. The following photo was taken by the News Herald during the game.
